The Dillinger Group builds the third largest PV carport in the world!
15. April 2024
Construction of our monumental photovoltaic carport project in Lonato del Garda, Italy, is expected to start in October 2024.
The facility consists of 2 huge solar parking lots with more than 5000 parking spaces, on an industrial area of 20 hectares. The covered parking areas belong to ARS Altmann AG, one of the leading forwarding and automotive logistics companies with a sustainable energy concept that will consume a large part of the electricity directly on site.
The carport facility will be equipped with charging stations for electric cars, 158 string inverters and 35,190 modules. Around 310,000 meters of power cable will have to be laid for the large carport.
With 20.71 MWp, Lonato is currently the 3rd largest PV carport system in the world!
PV carports offer numerous advantages: Firstly, the energy from the solar modules can be combined with e-mobility technology and secondly, the vehicles are protected from the weather by the roofing. The dual use of the area as a parking lot and as an energy source not only protects the environment by producing and storing electricity from renewable energies, but also because no additional land needs to be sealed for the construction of the solar park.
In some federal states in Germany, the construction of PV carports for 35 parking spaces or more has even been mandatory since January 2022.
Companies that equip their parking areas with PV carports not only enjoy a positive public image, but also make themselves independent of rising electricity prices and offer their employees/customers who drive an electric car a sustainable charging option. The guaranteed feed-in tariff and good predictability over 20 years in advance make the PV carport a low-risk investment.
